Teaching is one of the most cognitively demanding forms of professional practice because educators must integrate competing information and make provisional judgements while continuing to teach.
Core argument
Teachers simultaneously monitor understanding, interpret responses, identify misconceptions, maintain curriculum coherence, manage attention and behaviour, adjust explanations and anticipate what should happen next.
The Professional Intelligence Cycle represents this work as continual rather than sequential: notice, interpret, prioritise, exercise professional judgement, act and notice again as action generates new evidence.
